Since 2004, OAPTINhas been building capacity for sustainable, agrochemical-free farming across Nigeria's universities — training graduates, publishing research, and driving food security from the ground up.
Development of skilled manpower through degree programmes and ad-hoc training courses and workshops.
Research in diverse ecologies leading to commercialisable, farmer-adoptable, cost-effective and sustainable production systems.
Increasing support for the practice of organic agriculture and the consumption of organic produce.
“Good food, safe food, plenty to eat all the time.”
The Organic Agriculture Project in Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria is a university-based project with an outreach to Nigeria and the rest of sub-Saharan Africa. Established as a non-profit project in June 2004, OAPTIN's concept of organic agriculture is the production of food and fibre without the use of agrochemicals harmful to human health or the environment — including environmentally friendly technologies that help upgrade marginal production resources for increased food production.
